If you’re subscribed to this newsletter, you already know and love Prismatic Pages. If you found your way here some other way: welcome! The vast majority of our emails aren’t us asking for money, but today’s a little different.
Prismatic Pages is Oslo’s only all-English bookshop. In just over a year and a half of business (yes, it really has only been that long!) our store has quickly become known for its uniquely curated collection of books for all sorts of readers.
But while our first year went well, like most small businesses starting out, we had a loss. In our case, it was about 10%. That’s not bad! But we started this operation on a very limited budget, meaning we don’t have a huge amount of cash in the bank to keep things going when there are lean months. When I first started the store, I was told I needed at least 500,000 NOK to get it off the ground. I did it with less than 300,000 NOK. That doesn’t leave us with a lot of cash flow currently.
We are now asking you to help ensure the future of Prismatic Pages.
With your help we can get over the finish line of year two, into year three, and on our way to long-term sustainability. For a detailed breakdown of our financial results from 2024, check out our post about that here.
This Spleis fundraiser will help us cover the loss from last year and grow into the future.
And there is so much more we want to do! We hope to bring even more amazing events to the community, promote local and international literature, and continue being a part of building a stronger indie bookstore scene in Oslo. But to do all that, we need your help!
You can find the full list of our growth initiatives below, but the most exciting development is that we are going to start a publishing arm of Prismatic Pages – called, of course, Prismatic Pages Publishing. We already have our first manuscript, and we’re thrilled to help this author produce the final result – with a book launch at Prismatic Pages of course.

Your donation will:
Start an independent publishing company focusing on local authors
Introduce a monthly fiction book club
Create and host mini literature festivals
Provide a wider variety of inventory and more new releases
Overlap some staffing shifts to make sure you get the best possible experience – great recommendations, personalized service, gift wrapping, etc.
Create a rainy-day buffer fund in case of any large, unexpected expenses over the next years
And much more!
Help secure Prismatic Pages’ future, ensuring your favorite indie bookshop will be part of Oslo’s cultural landscape for years to come!
